Dear Sunset Beach Sponsors, Friends & Followers
The Concert Committee is pleased to announce that Dean Nelson of Seascape Designs and Kelly Stuart of Sloane Commercial Real Estate both in Sunset Beach have joined the Concert Committee. Denise Williams and Anita August have retired from the Committee and we thank them for their 5 years of dedicated service. The 2018 Concert Committee and a few new volunteers are ready to make 2018 happen.
We are proud of the of the infrastructure that we have created over the past seven years together and working with some our new committed volunteers are learning from our experiences. The "bones" of a sound organization continue to be in place, and the Sunset Beach Concerts will continue as a community benefit. We encourage your continued financial support to make 2018 a success.
Following is some pertinent information regarding the history of the concerts.
The Sunset Beach Concerts have been held every Summer since 2012. Fred Thorne Realty on Queen Anne Street in Sunset Beach started to offer some grassroots musical entertainment with a small non-compensated staff to build a summer long series of weekly concerts.
Then in 2013, five people agreed to work together as a cohesive new team to broaden the scope of the summer concert program under the umbrella of the Brunswick County Parks & Recreation. The team created a organized method of identifying and contracting with musical talent, raising community funds to pay for bands, formalizing the business operations of the program, procured the IRS 501 C-4 status for "Sunset Beach Concerts", and built the communications program via social media on Facebook and a Concert website. Our first year operating under this new format was a huge inspiring success. Together, the team worked hard to continue that success for the past five years with a general yearly operating budget of $30,000+ which is raised through business Sponsorship and Friends of the Concerts. Over the years, the Concerts reputation grew, and is recognized today as one of the most successful and popular summer entertainment programs in Brunswick County.
In the past six years, the Committee's life's demands had evolved, and two members of the original winning team that was the lifeblood of Sunset Beach Concerts moved on to devote more time to our businesses and families; fortunately Dean and Kelly stepped in to fill those two positions. In 2017 a reduced schedule was announced and many from the community quickly realized that the Concerts were an integral part of summer in Sunset Beach. The Town of Sunset Beach has budgeted $10,000 to the current Concert Committee for a 2018 Season and we need the remaining funding to come from local businesses, sponsors and friends.
